Default 44C deck

Apparently I have a early generation 44C deck on my 149. From what I understand the PTO deck pulley is larger than the deck belt pulleys, which I need a belt for the bigger pulley. It appears the PTO will run the larger belt but not sure about the mule drive pulleys.
I believe the 44C was not designed for the 149?

There are 3 generations of the 44 inch mower deck. There was models: 44, 44A, and 44C.

44 was designed for the 1x8/9 Series tractors
44A was designed for the Quietline Series tractors
44C was designed for the 82 Series tractors.

To make a 44C work correctly on a 149, the center deck pulley needs to be changed to a IH-59703-C2 Pulley.

The correct belt would be: IH-59971-C1 Belt.

Can I run the bigger belt without changing pulleys?
Right now I'm running a 1/2" belt but it is too small.
Was there a way to change the pto on the engine to take the bigger belt?

What I laid out, was the cheapest inexpensive way, to make it work.

You could look for a 44 model deck, and install that.

I know my PTO will take the bigger belt as it is.
It was a new engine when I bought the 149.

Why would I?
I already have a set up for a bigger belt.
The belt you said won't work.
I'm down to a 75" as of now.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
