Default 882 value

A guy who works with my neighbor is selling this 882. Says it runs, thats all I know right now. I might go look at it over the weekend. I didn’t get a price yet, he said the guy doesn’t really know what it’s worth. Neighbor is going to talk to him tomorrow and see if he can get more info and maybe a price range. How much should I offer him? Prices on diesels seem to be all over from what I’ve seen. Obviously I want to get it as cheap as I can, but I don’t want to just throw out a really low number. And how would I find the year?

Thanks Roland. How do you find that, is there a chart somewhere like for the IH ones?

IH Code: 144-882-100

14 = Garden Tractor
4 = Last digit of model year (ie: 1984)
882 = Actual Model Number
100 = Painted Yel/Wht

Thanks again, that’s easy enough to remember.

882's were only made in 1984.

I've paid $600-$800 for several non-running diesels and never thought twice about it. Now I'm glad I did because I just don't see them come up for sale in my area.

I would think that $1k would be a good price to get that one but you are in the land of Cubs so prices are probably a little cheaper up your way.

Always remember that you will probably need to sink another $300+ to redo the driveline, fuel lines and starter/GP upgrade if the PO hasn't done those repairs.

Good luck and go get it.

Thanks guys. I just got an update, the guy was thinking $800, it is not running right now, but he’s going to try to get it running today. He also has another older one he wants to sell. Didn’t get a model, but he said it had a metal seat. I’m probably going to look at them tomorrow.

Thumbs up

I just bought a 782D for $2200, but it is in good condition with some issues. Definitely think $800 is more than generous even if it needs a ton of work/upgrades.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
