Default 2182 wont charge

Got a 2182, with a Kubota gas engine, positive battery wire touched the exhaust and melted the coating, but didn't seem to hurt the wire, but now it doesn't charge thought was the rectifier/regulator but that didn't fix it, is there a way to check the alternator on this engine only 2 wires coming out of it. just wandering if anyone knows what voltage and amps is suppose to be and where the regulator don't even showing its charging. thanks Newt

Which positive wire?

To test the alternator, disconnect the two wire connector from the alternator. Using a DVOM, set it to A/C voltage. One lead on each of the two wires, engine running WOT. You should have approx 30 volts AC on them. If you do, the alternator is working.

Did you check the fuses? Did you check to see there is 12V coming from the R/R?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
