Bent Center Casting on 42" Deck
I think I just found why my 122 was sitting cast off in its previous owner's driveway: the center spindle housing is bent toward the side opposite the discharge, which I'm sure really screwed up the cutting performance of the deck as a whole.
The deck itself is straight: I sighted along it in several directions and noticed no bends, or misalignment, so that's not the problem. After removing the casting, I noticed that the bearing housing is canted relative to the front edge of the casting. Being cast iron, can this be straightened? How-- with a torch or something? I wonder what bent that... Anyway, thanks for any help.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
