Newbie From WA w/2086

I have found a 2086 SGT with 54in deck, snow blower, rear tiller, PTO, 3pt, and bar tread tires with wheel weights.

The guy said it stopped running suddenly one day and he never looked into it. He just bought a Kubota to replace the 2086.

This 2086 has less that 100 hrs on it. Would you guys know what might be wrong with the engine?

What would be a fair price to ask for the tractor and attachments since it doesn't run?

This gentleman hinted he needs to get rid of it but I don't want to make an a low ball offer and insult the guy.

That has some nice attachments! Maybe he ran it out of gas wouldn't be the first time that has happened. Ask him for details of what it was doing. Going to be hard to help you fix the engine or replace until you can get your hands on it to work on it. I'll let some of the more seasoned guys help you with the price but if it was me I'd be pricing out another engine and finding a nice spot in the garage for it!

I should have took pics. But it was buried under lots of garage stuff. The owner is a bit of a mechanic and through discussion he said it had just stopped like you turned the key off while mowing.

He tried to get it started again in the shop. He had fuel but all it would do is crank and not fire.

Were there any common engine failures with these tractors?

Would it be worth buying for under $500 even though it may need an engine?

If it would need an engine where would I get one?

With those attachments it would be a steal for $500 I just picked up a rear PTO, 442 Tiller, 3 point, and 450 blower and have a good deal more than $500 in them, and that doesn't include a tractor. If it were me, and the attachments were in good shape, anything $1,000 or under it would be sold. I'd have to put a little more thought if the price started approaching $2,000, but it would still have good potential at that number.

The options:

1) Tractor is having electrical issues creating a no spark situation. Correct, do a full maintenance (oil, filter, hytran, filter, air cleaner, plugs, etc), and put the Super into service.

2) Tractor needs motor rebuilt, but rest is in good shape. Spend the extra money and rebuild or replace the motor, do the appropriate maintenance, and put the Super into service.

3) Tractor is a basket case, and needs more than a motor. Part out the 2086 to fund another Super to use the attachments with or, depending on how good a deal you get, keep the 2086 for parts and find another Super.

That being said, I'm a little concerned if this guy is "mechanical" and just parked the tractor because it wouldn't start. That part makes me wonder.

Whatever happens, keep us updated. We love to hear about those good deals people come across!

The tractor had spark at the time after it quit running. "Mechanical" I mean he is retired farmer and tinkers with old tractors. The engine had very little compression when checked.

I have reason to believe what he has told me that the cam gear has broken.

He is almost 80 and I don't see this Cub getting fixed ever.

If you think you can handle the engine repairs by yourself or hiring it out I'd make him a offer. With it not running will help you get a better deal on the whole package. Now what to start with a offer is a bit beyond my skills atm. I got luckey and they guy I got my 122 from had it priced fair and all I had to do get my wife to say ok and bring the $$$.
