OK, two taps and the cup is off. Hairline cracks on both sides of the hole for the locator pin. Do you think the cup can be fixed or should I just try to find a good used replacement? As for your suggestion on cleaning up the threaded holes in the flywheel - Yes, I will definitely follow your advice once I get a good tap and die set.

I'd look for a good used one but if not too bad clean up the outside boss and put some epoxy-JB weld around the cracks maybe and clean the hole out with a bore brush might be ok to reuse ! clean up the pin on flywheel and use some anti seize when going back together should be ok once everything is bolted back together !

athomas, don't bother replying to my last question about repairing the cup. It's dumb and you have already helped me more than enough. Anyway, I just bought a replacement on ebay for about $60.00 shipping in. Costly mistake though mine was missing the screen. Thanks again. Ross

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
