On the PTO thing, the pto tension can be adjusted by the turnbuckle on the rod from the lever to the pto assembly. Maybe it needs more adjustment?
Darndest thing. I adjusted the button to spring plate clearance with the turnbuckle to the recomended .015. Nothing changed. Put it in the garage last night and let it set.
Got up this morning, started the tractor to pull it out and the PTO was disengaged.
Backed out, activated the PTO, shut it of......back and forth about six times. Now it is working fine. Makes no sense to me! LOL. I'll keep an eye on it and keep you guys posted.

Now I'm off to learn about sleeve hitches & rear implements for the 123. I found a sleeve hitch & rod connector to fit it. I guess I really need to find a manual first to know how to install it etc.

Thanks! I'll look for more specific info. I rechecked it when I got home tonight. It is still working fine.

Welcome Dave,
I'm in Central MO.

I have had that issue before with about the same results as you experienced.
I believe it is caused by the plates sticking together from sitting too long.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
