Tearin down the 147
Well the 122 is finished and tucked safely away in the shed for the winter,(I do so love my 528SWE cub snowblower). I have started to rebuild/upgrade the 147. NOTE I did not say RESTORE. I like to make my tractors dependable but am not so much interested in äccuracy. I will be painting it the "wrong"color of CREAMY CUB CADET WHITE, why, ,,,cuz I like it. I suppose you get the drift. The P/O had already done nice work to the deck,, check that off the list! I've completed a few things already, note the painted hitch and "new"grill. As you can see in the front pic the grill is not 147ish, why? YOU KNOW. I built my own patterned after the 122 grill,(I like that style). I like to take lots of pics during work to help me with reassembly,( sheesh I JUST turned 50, I guess the legs...no...arms....no....ears..no .. BRAIN ..yeah thats it the brain is the first to go!). I how ever didnt take pics of building grill, so I did a drawing in "paint". Its not to scale but you'll get the drift I guess. I just drilled 1/4"holes spaced as I wanted in a 2x4 then cut it in half and used it to hold 1/4"rd stock for welding. The grill is slightly shorter than the 122 series but came out ok for my first time.

Nice tractors mrjeep81,
Great looking grill on the 147. What is the "do-dad" on the front of the mule on your 122? |

"do-dad"
I welded that on the 122 so that when I use the floor jack I don't have to worry about bending stuff up on the mule. I just lift at that point, and everything is accsessible underneath.

My dad used to tell me the second thing to go was your memory. He couldn't recall what the first thing was. I think I agree with him now.
I like your grill. I also like your idea of cleaning, repairing, painting things as you take them off. Must make the reassembly a very satisfying and quick experience.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
