What oil for transaxle?
I drained the oil from the transaxle on my 100 and it had gear oil in it but the original owners manual says to use 30wt motor oil. Which should I use? I would think the gear oil would be better.

Use what IH & Cub Cadet recommends......SAE30WT or HyTran

I just changed mine this weekend for the first time, I put Rotella SAE 30 in it. Rotella does not have the API for gas engines that have extra chemicals in it. Book says 7 pt, but I put almost 8 pts in mine, course I tipped the tractor to the side to fill it a little higher.

I replace the oil with Hy-Tran Ultra anytime I change oil in the rear end oil. Hy-Tran Ultra has an oil encapsuplating properities in the oil. All Cub rear endsare not a sealed unit....meaning moisture can and will get in them. This is a good example of moisture in the rear end:
I haven't put a load on this rear end yet.....hope it is ok. This is the rear end in my "Project Uncle Dick 70" http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/s...ead.php?t=1270 |

The oil in mine looked fine but I didn't know if it would be safe to put gear oil back in it or not. It just seems to me that gear oil would be better since that's what most manual transmissions and axles call for. |

HyTran is what the International Harvester farm tractors have in there rear ends. If it holds up in the big tractors it should work great in our Cub Cadets.
It's your tractor....do with it what you want to. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
