Default Anyone found a decent plastic gas tank?

Happy Thanksgiving!

I had the ugly O out doing leaf duty (again) yesterday and noticed that it began to lean out (again) due to clogged up fuel system (again). 95% of the time it's rust fragments that clog the fuel outlet.

So... has anyone had any luck getting a plastic fuel tank that turns out to be reasonable size for a cub? Anything from 1/2 to a full gallon would be fine. I could adapt some sort of mount I'm sure.

I'm really tired of fuel starvation problems in most of my old cubs due to deteriorating gas tanks. I understand that stuff rusts after ohhhh 50 yrs or so! :-)

Not a want ad, just looking for a source of such things. There's some cool spun aluminum jobs used for "cool cans" or "puke bottles" for drag cars, but those cost more than most of the Cubs I own.

There's some small plastic tanks on Amazon, but so far I've held my nose and passed them by.

May I suggest cleaning the tank with a handfull of 1/4' nuts and shake it till you tire and do it again & again, finally flushing it out and installing a inexpensive
inline filter.
it has always worked for me and others, I do not line the tanks, but after they are clean I fill with fuel through a screened funnel as I do all my tractors, small to large farm tractors, gas & Diesel

The products from these folks that I've tried are great, although I have never used this one. But might be worth consideration....

I just clean them and put them back on. If there are no baffles then I put in small gravels--clean, no dirt. Could also use nuts and washers. Shake it around or strap it onto the rear wheel of something else and let it spin for a while (I'm sure there are videos on the net). If you are trying to get out old fuel residue, I suggest something like purple power or simple green mixed real strong, or even dumping in a gallon can of carb cleaner.

Hello, Here is a picture of the gas tank on my Sears year 2000 snowblower (10 hp tecumseh single cylinder) . It is plastic rectangle type which measures 11"L x 6"W x 5"D with no weird indentations. My neighbour was scraping her machine which was very similar to mine, so I pulled some parts off it before it ended up in the dump and one of those parts was the exact same tank as on my machine. At the time I thought it could be redeployed for something, somewhere, somehow. Anyway, if this is kind of what you are looking for, it should be easily found on ebay.

I had my eye on one of those Tec tanks before I found a local source of a new-to-me decent tank for my 123.

Thanks guys. I'm going to try one of those Tecumseh varieties. There's several always on Ebay.

Hard to get a metal tank to last 60 yrs these days :-)

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
