I know! Like the guy that's walking around the house looking for his glasses and then discovers he's wearing them...lol

Anyway, the number on mine is 422U1113....48" deck.

Despite what some people have told me, I'm starting to think these decks are not as easy to find as I had hoped. I don't see much point in putting the engine in the tractor if I can't find a deck for it.

I am sure you will find it's a "42" deck'. This is the "third generation" of the 42's.

Roland...interesting. How is the measurement determined? I simply measured from end to end. Do you measure the total width of the 3 blades? And here all these years (more like decades) I felt good about mowing with what I thought was a 48" deck!!! I have no doubt you're right.

I am seeing some decks on eBay, but they are either not the right one or else look to be in crappier shape than mine!

Thanks! Well in that case, based on the diagram - which shows an end-to-end measurement - I can't see why mine wouldn't be 48.
I did get what I believe to be an accurate IH parts # for a 48" deck, but what I don't know is how much variability exists among all the different decks that were made back in those years, i.e. if I would manage to come across one that is in decent shape and measures the same as mine, will it definitely fit, or are there more considerations to be aware of? I would imagine many different models used the same deck.

Unless someone changed the ID plate on yours, That number is for a 42" deck "422U1113"

In Roland's diagram those are the blades

OK...if measuring between the ends of the blades...definitely 42....trick is to find one that is in good shape. So now the IH number I got from this "parts tree" outfit is not correct.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
