K321 Throttle Shaft Bushing?
I searched for previous posts on the throttle shaft bushing and went to the local hardware store and got a couple of the 7/16"x1/4"x1/16 bronze bushings. I haven't installed them yet but did remove the shaft from the carb with no problems. I also visited another web site and read what they had to offer. Their bushing he offers is 7/16"x1/4"x1/8 so that has me wondering about 1/8th vs 1/16th. I wasn't able to find 1/8" bushings so am wondering about using 2 of the 1/16" bushing or maybe ordering the one from Miller.
I'm just wondering how have the 1/16" bushings held up for you that have installed them?

I inserted a tiny 'o' ring around my shaft on top of the washer.
Works ok so far. Last time I checked, in 1959 IIRC, 1/16" + 1/16" = 1/8" |

They hold up fine. I can't recall if I used two on the last one I did or not. I think I used one, then added a felt seal on top.
Hey, listen, if you want advice or parts just come here. Don't be looking on BM's site. He's not good people, and no one should buy from him. Just delete that bookmark on your pc. |

I would advise against an o-ring. Use a felt washer. A rubber o-ring could cause throttle binding and a surge problem. Plus, the rubber won't last long exposed. It will rot and fall out in a couple years.

I was thinking something like felt or??? Something that would hold some oil to act as a "filter".

Sure looks like the bushing. Can't tell the exact size from your picture but could be. Is that a Hillman or Cub Cadet.....part number?

It is neither. It is a Kohler part number. Kohler did offer a repair bushing.

I just received the bushing kit along with some other parts I ordered from one of the forum sponsors. A couple of questions:
What is the best way to lock the threads on the throttle plate screws? (maybe just a small pair of vise grips) Also maybe use some lock-tite? Can you get the small felt washer for the top of the shaft from a hardware store?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
