Thanks everyone, I forgot to mention, I put a drill on the hydro and spun it over, and it does seem to work, hopefully it isn't weak or something

Tim, I'm not sure what I'm doing about decals, I'll let you know if I want them. Time to update this thread again, I've gotten a lot done since I last posted. Now that I've been out of school, I brought the tractor home.I test fit the 1720 axle and it seemed to fit well, I will need to design a way to connect the steering arm to the spindle. I also mocked up the transaxle, rear tires, and hood to see how it would look. I picked up another 8hp Briggs that I thought had really good compression. I got it running, it ran really well, however, it burns a lot of oil, so back to square one.At this point, I started to completely disassemble the tractor for paint. I got most sandblasted, still have to do the frame though.I then started priming some of the parts.

I then painted the footrests black. I laid down some IH red on some of the parts today. Getting closer.

Thanks everyone. I am getting closer. I welded the cracks in the fenders and painted them. I got the frame blasted, primed, and painted. I am in the process of painting a lot of small parts. I have also started reassembly, shouldn't be too long now. Also, is there serial number data available for these Lawn Tractors anywhere? I would like to find out what year it was built and can only find data for the big GT's.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
