Default Starting a new resto today.

Not a cub but a pretty hefty tractor for a small guy weighing in at 3200 pounds. I showed some pics of this when we first got it in. We will be doing a frame off resto on this. Need to get crackin. Time is of the essence since we will have this on display at the Orlando aviation NBAA trade show in October.

Cool project, but my question is WHY? I would have thought airports would just buy new. Are you just showcasing the repair abilities of your shop? Tell us more about the machine, is it made by a forklift manufacturer or someone that only builds tow machines/tugs.

Actually. Most airlines are about a 50/50 mix of buying new and refurbished equipment. We sell refurbished equipment to all major airlines all over the world. We also sell to FBO's, Contract ground handlers, Military, and so on.

This equipment is extremely expensive. A new push back tractor for a wide body aircraft is roughly 400,000$ and weights 120,000 pounds. When you think about it its just a real heavy block of steel with a drive line. So when we buy one at auction. Re power, paint and repair and can sell it with warranty for half of new its a no brainer to the airlines.

OK. SO why. Every trade show I do I bring something as a show piece. A really cool old tractor attracts people to your booth and thats the whole reason you purchase a booth at a trade show right? To meet new customers.

This was made by Clark. Yes they made forklifts but they also made just about as much aircraft equipment at the time.

Clark was one of the most popular tow tractors back in the day. This unit is tiny. It was used for small aircraft or towing baggage carts.

We sell all types of airport equipment.

I restored a 782 for a guy from Texas several years ago and he used it to move around his private plane. I guess if you have private plane money then you can afford to have someone else from the other side of the country restore your Cub.

We sell some stuff to private owners however, the ones with the real money would never move their own plane. The guys that own prop jobs probably will move their own plane around but the guys with jets leave it to the FBO to handle. A Lektro tug "see picture" is used for most private size jets. The Lektro runs about $90,000 new. We sell them refurbished for $40,000 or so. These guys want their limo driven plane side, jump in tell the pilot where to take them and wheels up in less than 5 min.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
