Default Model 86 Question

Looking for knowledge and opinions. Found this 86 for $75. It runs fine and metal seems mostly straight. It is missing the deck. I noticed that the original hinges on the hood were replaced and so it does not sit flush. I would like feedback on whether or not this is a good price, and if it is worth ones time to do a restoration or if it’s just a good parts tractor. I am not sure if it is complete. It appears to be missing parts but I don’t know enough about it to judge it properly. Also, I understand from my research that it is a more rare model. Are parts difficult to locate? Thanks for your help.

An 86 is a find, and $75 is a great deal. Worth it to restore for sure.

If it has OEM air cleaner and muffler, it's worth it. 86 is a good little machine..

You did well! The 4th lowest production model, and a great price.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
