Default 682 3 point hitch question

Hello all. First let me start off by thanking everyone on here for sharing their knowledge. I’ve been a member for a few years now and I’ve always been able to find answers to any question I’ve ever had. I have a 682 (SN-725837) that I’m wanting to put a 3 point hitch on. I have found one on line for sale but from what I’ve read there are 2 different ones according to serial number. So before I buy it I would like to make sure that I can use it. I’ve spent the past 3 evenings search this sit and on the web but information seems to be hard to find. Can anyone help me verify that this will work? Or point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.

Sorry I’ve never posted pictures on here before and it’s quite the challenge.

Depends.... what are you wanting?

A 682 can have a IH 3pt (sleeve hitch) if it has a cast iron rear end. Or it can have a Cat 0 3pt (like a tractor). The Cat 0 will fit on either rear end. According to your serial number, you have an aluminum rear end. So, what are you looking at buying?

EDIT:
You posted pics just before I made this post. Unless someone has changed the rear of the tractor to a CI one, that won't work... UNLESS you buy a lower bracket that fits the aluminum rear end. extrememotorworks.com sells them.

I am trying to put a sleeve hitch on my 682,, I just got a rock rake that is practically brand new,, so that is what will be hooked up to the sleeve hitch. Thanks for the fast response.

Yeah, your going to need a different lower bracket to use that hitch. Get the one with ears that attach to the axle housing. Risk pulling the bolts out of the aluminum if you don't. Although, with just a rock rake, you'd probably be ok.

I would rather do it right and get the proper bracket for the rear, would you happen to have a part number? Also, this person is asking $350 for this set up, do think that’s fai? I feel that it’s a bit steep, but since I can’t exactly go to the store and get a whole hitch setup I’d have to buy everything in pieces which would probably cost more in the long run.

Shoot us a picture of your rear end and we can determine what you need, some later CCC built tractors have the cast iron rear, $350 is fair being it is new. but you can find used for $175.00 to $200.00

I’m fine with buying a used one, but there doesn’t seem like there’s much available.

Darkminion,

Where about in NJ are you? I’m in Stow Creek, if you have anything I may need for sale, I’d be interested in buying from you.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
