450 to 451 blower conversion
I just picked up a 450 blower along with a 2182 with a 60" deck. The 450 is wrong for this mower (PO didn't use blower) because of the 6" PTO pulley. I already have a 2182 with a 451 and I think it would be better to change the 450 to a 451 instead of changing the new tractor to a 4"PTO pulley. That way everything is interchangeable. I think I could just change 2 gears. Does anyone know what part # I would need, and where to get them. Or, is it just easier to change the pulley and forget having everything match. Belts would be different, and one belt number would be nice too. Thanks, Don

There has been some discussion about this on here before. I ran the ratio's for a guy one time and actually figured out what size of pulley you would have to go with. There was really no way to make it work effectively. You really would be better off selling the 450 and buying a 451.
Ray is right, unless you can find them used, you can't get gears. If you changed the pulley, you would have to have one made, and it would be so big, I don't think you could get the belt to feed up to it right. The belt wouldn't track in the lower pulleys. |

I thought the only difference is 451 uses a 6" PTO pulley and the 450 uses a 4" PTO pulley. I will just change the PTO and get the shorter belt. Funny part is.. I have an early 2182 that had the smaller PTO and I bought a 451. I had to change the PTO to the larger PTO. I sold Small PTO !

Yeah, the difference is in the gearboxes on the blowers. The ratio of the internal gears is different to account for the difference in PTO pulley sizes.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
