Front mounted Hydraulic Hoist on a 107

I've always had an issue moving heavy things around my garage and shed, driveway, on/off trailer, in/out pickup bed etc.....

Wife bought me this Northern Industrial Tools Hoist" for my 52nd birthday (think she's tired of hearing me complain about my sore back) and I found this 107 on Craigslist (with a bonus plow) to mount it on.

This is my first garden tractor/riding mower of any kind, so It might seem like I don't know what i'm talking about.

Nice 107. I had one of those jacks mounted on a 2 inch receiver on my truck for a while, comes in handy. You can fab one up or buy one already made.

I wanted a more stable front end for lifting/driving.

picked up a EZ-Go golf cart front axle (including hubs) and a pair of 20x8 on 10" rim wheels.

Also I was surprised how easily this 107 towed around my empty car trailer. was impressed for sure....

Couple things I see, (and this is in no particular order):

1.) That EZ-GO golf cart axle isn't as heavy as what the tractor has on it. Only difference is it has hub style wheels. Hub doesn't matter, as the spindle is what the weight rides on.

2.) You will have to stack a ton of weight on the rear, and obviously while you are carrying a load, it will be hard to steer.

3.) You won't be able to carry much. You'll likely pull the rear wheels off the ground, or tip it over when the load swings.


Sooooo..... How about you do the right thing, and mount it to the rear. That's the end that can carry more weight. You could add a weight bracket and weights to the front as necessary. Even then, you won't be able to carry much. I have a boom just like that mounted to a Cub Lo-Boy with 3ph. I can't pick up a loaded oil drum without pulling the front wheels off the ground. Remember, it's a garden tractor, not a forklift. If you really want to be able to carry some weight, be safe and not have to do any or much mods, set the lift on it's own axle with a tongue. Hitch it to the cub to move it. Safer, easier, and you don't have to keep all those weights you will need on the tractor.

But.... do as you wish.

J-Mech; thanks for the reply, I agree with most everything you say.

i decided to go with the EZ-GO axle because it's wider, and the cast knuckles have "ackerman angle" build it and should make steering easier. (can barely see front tire in picture, currently test fitting) Also it looks like i'll be adapt a hydraulic cylinder for steering.

Plan to mount axle a inch or two farther forward than original to help keep the rear tires on the ground.

I made a counter weight to help too. I added scrap steel to my concrete mix to make heavier, i'm guessing it's about 150 lbs. (there are 2 unseen brackets the bolt the weight to the rear diff lowest 2 bolts).

I see you changed your post, I didn't intent to offend.

This is my first thread and am just building something to make life easier and looking for input good and bad. I assume others have done similar.


anyway here is the mount I made for the front, and mounted hoist (future plan is to replace cylinder with one I can control from seat )

last picture is a snow plow system I removed from a 72 dodge power wagon. i'm trying to figure out how to drive it. ideas?
