I finally got time to get this new tractor out to really test it, but first a little background on what I've been doing with it. The issue with it not lifting the tiller I'm pretty sure was a combination of the relief valve needing to be shimmed, and a crapload of water in the rear end. I drained the oil and it looked like pancake batter! I removed the PTO, opened it up, scrubbed the rear end out, flushed it out with clean hytran and marvel oil and refilled it again. I'll change it and the filter again before winter. Hopefully everything is okay in there yet. So after I got it cleaned up my daughter kept bugging me she wants to run it. She's 12, and my only kid until January sometime, so any time she shows interest in this stuff I love it! I put the deck on and sent her up the fence line. She had a blast. My turn was Sunday after we got done planting. I wanted to see how that tiller worked. We put a mound system in last year, and a retaining wall in front of it this spring, so the backyard needed to be worked up to get grass back in. I think it did a damn good job!

So then, Wheres the trouble?
I don't see any trouble at all! looks great! Only trouble I see is what machine ya gonna buy for your daughter now? Also don't forget the main rule of buying cubs. Its always easier to ask for forgiveness than permission!

Oh yeah I figured out the ask forgiveness part a long time ago
My daughter grew up with red tractors on the farm so she likes the 682 better. She just wishes it had power steering like the 1882. I think there's an excuse in there to find me a 982! |

By the way.. My wife does the same thing lol.. Like "no more tractors till I get....." Problem is, what she wants would usually pay for 100 tractors lol

I killed it the other day!
I don't know what happened, but the hydro just started losing its go and wouldn't even lift the deck. It got loud and hot. It hardly made it back to the shop under it's own steam. I've only got about 90 psi wot. I think the water that was in it had everything yucked up and now that it's clean and polished again from use it's worn to much. Maybe I should put water back in it and see if that helps! I'm already after a different hydro. Just thought I'd give an update on what I've had going with it the last few days. I did find out that the engine has been replaced tho, and only has about 400 hours on it, so it makes fixing it an easier decision. |

It did all that work one day.. And the next its barely moving??? I would not condemn the hydro just yet. You sure its not air bound or something?
Check the drive shaft. Maybe you have a busted pin thats just barely hanging on enough to turn it some

1882 has a CV drive shaft, no pins. I have seen the splines worn off the shaft though. You mentioned that you changed the filter, what did you use for a filter?

Splines and CV joints were tight. Sam I run WIX filters. #51410. When I got the hydro out last night to identify how many splines were on the output shaft I made my confirmation. I have glitter in the filter, that can't be good.
I don't see any in the rear end though. I'm pretty sure I'm going to have metal throughout the whole hyd system which means complete disassembly and cleaning before anything else goes on it. I knew it was too good to be true. I thought it was getting a little sluggish when I was finishing up tilling. I just figured it was working harder as it was sod at the end vs mostly ground where I started. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
