Default 1450 newbie

Good Morning from Northern Michigan, I've recently become the proud owner of a 1450. This was acquired as the result of a friend needing something I had and me just being nuts about old lawn tractors. My friend is happy with the trade, however, I'm beginning to feel I got the better end of the deal. I stumbled across this site shortly after bringing her home trying to find information about a few of the problems she brought along with her. Broken hydraulic lift lever, front wheel bearings SHOT, engine smoking and loose on the mounts. Is the 1450 considered a LT or a GT? Looking forward to learning from those with experience with these fine machines. First pictures beginning the rebuild, sorry about the cluttered garage, lots of projects.

Welcome Nutz from a fellow Michigander. I've got a couple threads for my 1650 and 1450 tractors (same tractor, just 16HP vs 14HP) that you might like to peruse for tips. A lot of good info from everyone here on OCC in those threads.

I'm wondering about what Jed circled as well (?)

Also, how far North are you? I posted a link in the Craigslist section today, someone in the UP was giving away a 70s Cub.

Start your own project thread over in the GT section, and keep us posted on your progress!

I think that was the early 'disconnect clutch' option for easier winter starting. CCC used a centrifugal clutch to do the same thing later on.

Thanks for all of your welcomes and replys. Matt, I didn't know until the replies that the clutch was odd. Model# 573966 (Jan. 1976?)

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
