Sell the kit to Oak and save yourself the aggravation. Yes it's a collectable but as far as being a decent power steering setup that is a topic for conversation.

For what its worth, My 1811 is the easiest steering unit I have. Granted, I only mow with mine, but I palm the steering wheel and rarely have to manhandle the wheel. My 1811 came with a grease line/tube that runs down to the steering box, that is accessible from up top on the left side of the motor. I do not know if it was added by the previous owner, but it allows me to keep the steer box lubed. As easy as it steers now, I cant imagine how much easier it could steer with assist, but like I said, I don't have a load on the front of the tractor. TB

Here is spudders post. It doesn't sound like it works well at all, it is more of a collector piece than anything. And yes, oak wanted the one in that thread too!

The 1811's had the better steering unit in it than many others but it mine wasn't any good and to replace it was about $200. So for about
$300 more I added PS to mine and have never regretted it for one minute. I installed it over a winter break and it has been great to use. I have a johnny bucket on the front and the PS makes it usable. Without it it would be almost unsteerable in soft ground.

Thank you for all the replies. I will probably install it, maybe even this fall. I would like to track down the service bulletin on it first. I believe it is CC-086. I know of a few older cub dealers in the area and I thought they might have it. Any other ideas on how to get it?
Thanks Steve |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
