Default 1225 with bad transaxle??

Hi everyone. Just picked up a 1225 and i can push it forward and backwards freely. Does that mean the transaxle is bad or could it be something else? Any thoughts?? Thanks. Joe

Does it move freely when in gear (forward or reverse)? Are the brakes applied? That model has a gear transmission, not hydro, so if it’s in neutral with no brakes, it should move freely I’d think…

Quite some time ago I picked up the 50 years of Cub Cadet book so that I could
look up the tractors from the posts and try to better learn what people are
working on. Once in a while I cannot even find the tractor from the post, like
this one. Are there some that just didn't make the book or is there something
I am missing. Not questioning peoples ability know what tractor they have
but just curious.

I’m relatively new to most of this stuff but I get my info from either tractordata or tractorgearbox websites.

If it's not in that book, it's basically a lawn mower and not a garden tractor.
Lawn tractor w/vertical crank engine

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
