Lug Connections on 1440 PTO Switch
Since the actual PTO switch does not match the 1440 wiring diagram, can someone tell me which lug is what (A, B, C, D and F) on the actual switch.
Thanks. UPDATE CLARIFICATION - I have the original switch but I believe it is bad. Even though I have ordered a new one, I would like to be sure I was properly checking it with my meter. Specifically, I am wondering which lug is the 'D' lug. UPDATE #2: I believe I have properly labeled the 3 connections to the right correctly. My question is, in the picture, what are the labels of the 2 connections to the left? PTO Switch Connections.jpg |

If it is not the correct switch it prolly will not function correctly.

The correct PTO Switch for all three generations of the 1440 is 925-0893.

This has helped, thanks. I have added a picture of my switch with a detailed description of what I am trying to ascertain.

It's the original switch from a 1440. It is part #725-0893 (925-0893). See picture I have added to my original post, above. I have ordered a new switch. All I want to do is confirm that the switch is bad. In the 'Off' position, I assume I should get continuity between lugs C & D. I know which lug is C, but I don't know which lug is D. I DO NOT get continuity between C and either of the unlabeled lugs. Also, the connector that plugs onto the unlabeled lugs can be connected 'right side up' or 'right side down'.

Be sure to check the connection on the pto also. Do you have a wiring diagram for the 1440?

Yes, I have the wiring diagram for the 1440. The PTO operates fine. In fact everything works once I have jump started the engine. It was just that I couldn't start the engine using the key switch. I traced the problem to no power getting to the solenoid during the start mode, thus the PTO switch. Thanks.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
