Build Date Revisited
Is there a way to determine when my 1772 was built by using the serial number? There is no build date sticker on the frame. Is there an alternate spot where a duplicate sticker/code may have been placed? Perhaps someone with a serial number close to mine could narrow the build date.

My serial number is 788373. What I can read of the build tag is ?039G. I might be able to see it better in the daytime.

If you knew how many cubs were made it 1989 you could take that number and devide it by the number of work days in the year which would give you a rough daily output, once you have that number it wouldn't be to hard to figure out what day it was made give or take a few days for variation in output.

Well, that gets me a little closer to decoding my build date. Using the examples from this thread I can honestly say I have ???9G. With a few more examples maybe I can narrow it down. The first digit with the current info I have can be D,E,F,G,H or I. The numbers of tractors between the examples given of 786977 3/13/1989 and 791627 10/6/1989 is 4650 machines being built over a span of 207 days, or 175 days using a 6-day work week or 146 days with a 5-day work week.

Does anyone know how serial number were assigned at Cub Cadet? For example, I have paperwork for an 1872 that I purchased for my father that has a serial number of 785840 that was purchased on 4/17/1989. I want to head over to my fathers over the next couple of days to get his build date. The number of the 1872 is right in neighborhood of my 1772 as well. I think they must have run multiple models one after the other or in short runs, while giving the next available serial number the next machine on the line. I could be wrong though.
