Default 1872 hydro vent?

Does Anyone know where the hydro trans axle vents? If it does have a vent. It was leaking from the input lip seal so I replaced the seal, the charge pump o-ring and the bearing. It's not leaking from the seal anymore but now it's seeping from the dipstick / filler cap which has an o-ring.

I've looked on all the diagrams I could find and have found nothing labeled vent. My only guess is , the filler cap has a vent in it that I can't see? Before I replace the o-ring , seal it up nice and tight just to blow the input seal again I figured I'd check with those more knowledgeable then myself.

I appreciate any help!

PS. I also changed filter and the fluid with Case-IH Hytran , changed the steering cylinder and added rear hydraulics. I bled the lines and everything is working as it should. The fluid level is at the top of the full line.

Thank you,
Paul

I always thought it was in the dipstick cap also, but never looked closely.
Makes sense that it would be.

How many quarts are you putting in the rear? Should be about 7 quarts. Maybe you do not have the correct dipstick and you are putting in too much fluid.

Default Hydro vent

The dip stick is original , tractor has been in the family since new. The problem started 6 months ago. I did count quarts . It took a little over 7 to reach the full mark but I didn't think much of that since I added rear hydraulic lines and quick couplers via xtreme motorworks.

What kind of fluid did you use? Just reread your first post, you used hytran.

How many hours on the tractor?

Just thinking out loud, the oil level should not be near where the dipstick tube mounts to the top of the case. Just seems like it has too much fluid. Or there is a lot of foaming of the fluid.

Some dipsticks have a hole in the top, maybe it is clogged.

Default hydro vent

My 1872 has 1204 hrs. on it. Haven't had a chance to look at today yet but I'll check the cap out better and take a little fluid out to bring it just below the line.

BTW Thanks DARKMINION17, I took your advice on cutting a steering cylinder with a pipe cutter and it worked perfect. There are pics on the( lets see those cubs) sticky pg 57 I think. I probably posted them in the place lol.

Thanks for all of your help, I'll keep you posted.

Last year, after changing out the hydraulic fluid in my 1772, I had oil coming out the dipstick fill. I did some digging as found a service bulletin where some tractors were shipped with incorrect dipsticks. The bulletin gave the proper length the dipstick should for a cub cadet part number and some tractor models. I had look up the proper dipstick part number for my 1772 tractor since it wasn't on the bulletin. I've had my 1772 for years and I just found out I had the wrong dipstick, now, no more problems with this.

Default Hydro vent

Thanks Frank I'll definitely check in to that. I found the vent hole in the top of the cap and it was clogged. I cleaned it out, the weird thing was the bottom hole is behind the o-ring near the top. Can't imagine how it can vent properly. My 1782 dip stick has a hole on the top and the very bottom. I decided to buy a new dip stick for the 1872..

A clogged vent hole can cause problems as can the wrong length dipstick. Hopefully this will be ironed out for you now.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
