Default LTX 1042 KW Park Brake is not working

My park brake on my LTX 1042 will not set. Lever stays down all the time. I looked at my parts manual and shows a spring that connects to the rod in the bend of it. Mine doesn’t have this spring. The size of the spring is .500 Dia. X 2.733. My model number is 13WG93AS010. Where does the lower end of this spring connect or what to? Any help would be appreciated. I have this spring ordered and just need to pick it up today and try to get it fixed. Could there be another problem as don’t think that is what is broken down there. The rods are connected, just no resistance on the handle at all as I stated the lever stays down all the time.

Default LTX 1042 KW parking brake won't set

Just had this problem with my tractor. The problem was caused by the backing out of the retaining screw for the pivot axle on the brake/cruise control lever. This is a special screw with threads for attaching into a plastic boss in the dash. There is a cross shaft that the cruise lever pivots on and as this screw loosens the lever loosens to a point that it does not push the linkage rod down sufficiently to engage the parking brake. To access this area you need to remove the gas tank. Fortunately I always install a fuel line shutoff valve into the gas line so I shut off the gas flow and disconnected the gas line on the side beyond the valve. Removed four screws on the wire frame holding the gas tank in place and rotated the tank up and out of the way. It was obvious that the screw had backed out about 3/8". The lever could flop all over the place. to prevent this from happening again, I removed the screw and placed a lock washer on it and reinstalled. Since the head seats on a metal piece this should prevent reoccurrence. Apparently Cub Cadet engineering does not understand that plastic screws will back out of plastic bosses under vibration. Do not overtighten this screw and do not use a threadlocking compound on the screw as it will attack the plastic boss and cause a bigger issue. Reinstall your gas tank and the lever will operate as good as the day you brought the tractor home. No parts required other than a lockwasher. This issue will happen on all of these tractors as it is a design issue. Just depends on your usage environment . I have 205 hours on my tractor

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
