Default Cub Cadet 125 Hydro Issue

My Cub Cadet 125 is having an issue with the hydro. Sometimes when I stop moving and get off the lawnmower to do something I’ll leave it running and then it will start to either creep foward or backward on its own. This doesn't happen all the time, usually when its been running for a while.

There is an adjustment procedure in the service manual. Basically, put the rear end on jack stands, start the tractor, put it in neutral via the brake pedal. The tires will probably rotate one way or the other. Carefully loosen a couple bolts on the front left side of the hydro and tap the cam pivot bracket up or down a bit to make the rear wheels stop moving. Tighten the bolts, try the forward/reverse control several times, stepping on the brake. Readjust as needed to get true neutral when you put the brake pedal down.

Ok thanks, Ill get to it later this week. I also never really use the pedal because its kinda stiff and I don’t want to break anything so I just leave it alone, Is that normal or is that another problem? The pedal does work though.

The pedal puts the hydro in neutral (let go of the control handle) and applies the brake.

If you don't use the pedal, then just use the control handle to stop the tractor from drifting when you stop.

Thats what I usually do, just the stiffness and the feeling that its scraping scares me a bit.

then you have to free it up,
it is a safety thing to put the brake on when you leave the tractor, or shut it off, but you still have to set the brake or it will roll downhill.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
