Thank you all for the responses and suggestions. I will look into all of these and think that I will just get some regular machine screws, nuts, and star lock washers for the muffler box, then I'll get some thick rubber washers to use to fasten the side panel thumb screws down.........speaking of,
what size hardware do I need to assemble the muffler box, and what size thumb screws are needed for the side panel? Mine were either broken off or missing. I presume I would want longer thumb screws if I use the rubber washer. |

...then you need to loosen the 4, 3/8" bolts that hold the casting to the frame and adjust it till it does close entirely. You may also have to adjust the back hood support plate/latch.

But then it doesn't line up. I've tried with it full forward and back, but either way the trim strip catches and makes it hard to close and impossible to open the hood. I know that the grille casting is cracked a bit and bent, maybe that's the issue. I think the bent hood doesn't help either.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
