In my area, they only sell in 20 foot lengths..so I bring a battery powered grinder with cut off wheels to deal with that situation.

I would thing any welding or truck/machinery repair shop worth their salt, would cut any length you may need. They may even have a piece laying in their drop pile next to the shear or saw.

Around here I could get that piece for less than 4 or 5$, including tax!!

That stinks, but at least you aren't paying retail price for it and you can make a lot of whatever you're buying

Yup I go back and scour the drops for random little projects where size/dimension isn't critical. If I need something specific I just call it in ahead of time and they will cut to length. No way that lift rod would cost more than $5 in steel, though price has been up quite a bit because of the tariffs.

I built a 782 lift rod for a sleeve hitch out of 1/2"x1.5" stock 26" long and it cost me I think $6 for the steel. Hardware store didn't even have it, but the closest thing I could find was easily $30.

One of the places I buy from on occasion has a huge bin on a pallet they run out front of the office with lots of different drop items in it.
Storm Steel in Cedar Rapids, IA
I always stop and check it out, never can tell what they may have in there that I can someday use.

My go-to place is Des Moines Iron and Supply, which has a lot of other goodies at it too like PTO shafts, auger flighting, hinges, fence parts etc.

But when I got it the hydraulic lift would lift the plow that was on it. Since then I put a snowblower attachment on it and it will not lift it. I checked the fluid and had to put 2qts in it and still will not lift the snowblower. I adjusted the stop and still nothing. Any ideas on what the issue might be.

Thanks in advance
You may have to do a fluid change and new filter. Who knows when it was done last.

Pull the driveshaft tunnel cover and see if the cylinder-lift assembly is working right. If it was me I would disconnect the lift arm. Them reconnect the lift arm and try again. If the hydraulic lift works without the snow thrower lift connected and does not lift with the snow thrower connected I would check the pins in the lift assembly. One of the pins could be broke or the lift arm is too long.

If the pins are not broke the next area I would check is the lift assembly on the snow thrower. Make sure everything is loose and works right.

I had to shorten the lift arm on my 149-blade. I'm not sure how much the lift arm was shorten.

You need to do is download a manual on your 149. It can be found in Only Cub Cadets technical area. Page 2-35 has a section on hydro transmission and lift. An area I would check into( providing the above doesn't fix it) is the charge pump relief valve. Information can be found in the service manual.

This how I would trouble shoot your 149.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
