Hello all:
Joining the forum to learn more about Cub Cadets! I was fortunate enough to grow up around antique tractors as that has been my fathers hobby for years. His first full restoration was a 1950 Farmall M (besides a few green and orange tractors as well)! In any event he amassed quit a collection of Cub Cadets and gifted a 72 to my son for his 8th birthday which was really exciting.....perhaps more for me?!? We’ll tinker with the 72 around our house (yard maintenance) and keep its original condition look for now (looks great!). It has a rebuilt K161 so we’re good in that department. We found it out it was originally purchased from a now defunct IH dealer in New Hope, PA and it was built in June of 1968. Very cool stuff! Looking forward to learning more! |

Thanks all. I’ll do my best to post a few pictures of the 72 this weekend.
In other news, I’m looking to snag another of my fathers Cub Cadets to rebuild into a designated snow plowing tractor: 147!! |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
