Default 2284

Back when Diesel Doctor brought my 1572 back south, he also brought with him Dirty Steve’s 2284. It has been my main grass killer up until last week. Steve had trouble with it running bad, missing. I think it is the left side coil. I am in the process of converting the ignition from the ASam spark advance to regular ingnition, like is on a 1863/1864. Anyone ever done this to a 2284 or an engine with this system?

IIRC I think the flywheel needs to be replaced unless you have the DSAM module. Maybe the Cyclops master will tune in.

Yes indeed, I have the kit with the flywheel and 2 coils. It even comes with the kill wire harness. I just wish I would have ordered a seal. This one has been seeping.

Steve gave me the link to the parts that the master gave him.

I don't know if that kits comes with a wiring diagram but be sure you don't hook up the power feed for the SAM to the new mags or you will let the smoke out of the wires. The SAM should have a Red a White and a ground. You will need to use the white for your kill and remove the Red power feed. Here is the 2284 wiring diagram.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
