Default NTM 1968 Cub Cadet 104

A 'freebie'! It was born in May, 1968 (53 years young). It's been sitting for a long time, steering is froze up. Grille has been push back some, I'll look into that. One hood hinge hole in the hood is broken out. Two tires won't hold air. No key either, I'll try the one from my 108 later. Came with a QA deck and rear backfill blade. Here's some pics:

Very nice!

The keys for all the Narrow Frames and the 1X8 1X9 series are all the same, so you shouldn't really have an issue with that.

Yes, they are the same. I got curious at a show one time and went around with the key from my 125, just to see what models it would fit.

Basically, it fit everything made by IH from the mid - '50's to the early '70's.
It fit a 350, a 560, a 706, a 756, and a 660. There were no 66 series at that show, so I don't know if it will fit them.

IH wasn't big on making different keys. I was told once by an old IH truck mechanic that IH trucks in the 1950's and '60's had only 6 different key patterns. I don't know if that is true, but I do know that the key to my '65 Scout would start our local fire company's '65 V200 series fire truck.

What great luck you have!!! A back blade and a 104 w/ deck and 3 point for free!!!! Wow, whoever you got that off of, I'd be buying them a steak dinner. Nice score on a solid NF cub. Enjoy your great fortune.

Thanks everyone! Not sure what to do with it as yet. Can't put a lot of money in it as the market here for GT's is dead. I might sell it all pretty cheap if someone is willing to come get it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
