That’s where things go astray. My 1782 is serial number 802743 so it’s the early one. But the previous owner put an later model deck on it. I guess the best course of action would be to buy both and return the one that doesn’t fit.

We see it everyday, where PO's "make" things fit.

Got some seat time on the new to me cub. Found that a 5/8 x 94” belt was perfect. I fixed the glow plug wire that was broke into and it fired right up. This tractor mows better than any of my others. Nice level cut with no gouging unlike my 147.

Hi, congrats on the diesel. I just picked one up myself, a 1572. I also have a 1872.
Coming back to the slow comment, I think it depends on what you mean. If you are saying should reverse be slower than forward the answer is yes. They are set up that way. Keep in mind that a hydrostatic transmission really does not care what direction it is going. It has the same potential for speed in either direction based on the flow and pressure it has available. The speed is controlled by how far you can move the valve in each direction. So, if you mean slower than other similar models then you could have an issue. On my 1872 it was so slow and weak in reverse it could not back up a hill. I found worn linkages that I filled back in with weld and after fixing that I re-adjusted neutral and now it has all the speed and power I could want in reverse. I was surprised at how little wear it took to impact reverse. The impact to forward was not as obvious due to there being more throw in the linkage for that direction.
Hope that helps.
Brian

Thank you. Yeah I think that I have the typical trunnion wear like on my 147. I'll get the speed pretty close to where I want then it will take off like a shot and I'm trying to slow it back down. I did find my speed control lever was way loose and I tightened that up. I've installed some LED bulbs in the dash so now I can actually see them.

Well I finally found the friction adjustment for the speed control and that helped a lot. I didn’t realize that the PO had it so loose. Also where can I source new wheels for the front of the Haben. Mine are in pretty sorry shape.

Thank you so very much. I’ve been looking and it’s hard to judge what size to get when the ones I have are worn.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
