Default Trying to I.D. translatable MFG.

I have a Cub that has no markings and the I.D. decal is gone. I believe it to be a 3225 that someone has replaced the Kohler Command 22 HP with a 23 HP.

The trans-axle model # 618 -3209 is one I want to find out who the MFG. is. I contacted Hydro Gear and they say its not theirs.

Does anyone know who the MFG. is ?

Thanks for the help.

First, welcome to OCC......

The information you supplied offers no clues. How about posting a picture.

There should be a tag under the hood on the right side and another on the right side of the frame.

Hydro-Gear made all of the 3000 series hydro units. It will have a BDU-21L pump.

Here is a link to the manual if you need it.

Default Cub Diff

The differential has a stamped MTD 3 blades of grass logo on it and the unit is some type of metal because the magnet sticks.

IF Hydro Gear builds the pumps, then who builds the diff ? Hydro Gear told me the 618 - 3209 model number was NOT theirs.

I have absolutely no I.D. decals anywhere on this unit other than the one on the hump on the floor pan which is a decal in a circle and says "shaft drive"

That is why I thought if I could I.D. the trans-axle with its model and serial number I would be able to figure out this Cubs model. The guy I talked to he Cub corp was not real helpful. In fact he told me ALL Cubs had the I.D. tags under the seat, but the 2006 2554, and 3184 both have them behind the R.H. front wheel under the starter on the frame.

Everything pointed to this being a 3235, but those had a deck height knob on the floor pan, mine only has a small window.

I appreciate your help, Thanks.

The hydro unit is mated to the axle/diff assembly.
So the axle/diff could be a Peerless, etc.

You sure that number 918-3209 is not 918-3203 ?
The latter being the part number for a diff cover on a 3184, 3186, 3205, 3206, 3208, 3225 and 3226.

We still don't have a picture of this machine.....

The transaxle assembly was made by MTD. It is their own design. Used the same one in several tractors, so not a good way to identify the tractor.

If this thing is missing all the serial tags, I bet it's stolen. Maybe you don't want to know what it is.

Hydro -Gear only made the pump. All other stuff is made by Cub.

Here is a pic of a 3165 rear tag. This had nothing to do with the model of the machine other than it is the part number for that piece.
DSCN1284.jpg

My 3205 is missing the chitty decal tag for the model & serial but I have it. It fell off but I found it. I guess they were too cheap to put a metal tag on a $7000.00 lawn mower.....wonder why they can't compete in todays world?

You need to post a pic of your machine. There were several changes that they made before they threw in the towel on building a good garden tractor.

Does it have an aluminum or cast iron rear, slotted wheels, tilt wheel, how many slots are in the hood, where is the solenoid for the evac located, does it have the cutout for the rear pto in the rear hitch plate? Lots of other stuff was changed too.

It's okay, I still love my 3k's

Default Pics for Cub

I will get some pics and post them. I was told by a guy at Cub corporate that Cub put the I.D. Tag under the seat.

A NEW seat was installed before I got it, if that is the case the I.D. tag was not transferred to the new seat, but why would Cub put a piece of information so valuable on something was was going to be replaced soner or later ?

As I mentioned earlier the 2006 GT 2554, and 3184 both had I.D. tags on the frame behind the front R.H. wheel under the starter.

The model number of the trans-axle is 618 - 3209.

Thanks for everyone's help. I will get those pics on as soon as I can.

The model number is under the seat. Not on the seat. Under it....

Again, that number 618-3209 is a part number, not a model number.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
