Default Bad day :(

Good ole' northern PA got some snow today so I went to plow with my SGT. Started it right up like any other day and let it warm up for 10 minutes or so before I got on. Went to move forward and it didn't move. Sure enough, a second later, driveshaft goes BOOM. What happened!? There were no leaks under the tractor, it started just fine, and it has been running well all season.

I only snagged a few pics. I won't have time to tear into it until tomorrow night. I'm guessing this is going to be a pain and $$$...

That is not a 1782, the 1782 has a CV drive shaft.

I apologize, you are correct. Quite honestly, I do not know what this tractor is. It has a cyclops fuel tank and fender pan, and sheet metal hood/sides and dash from something of an 82 series. It also has a Kubota D950 diesel engine. A homemade tractor that I picked up very cheap and it worked many hours for me.

Here is another pic I forgot to add to the first post.

Make sure the input shaft still turns, if so, I have a replacement splined rear coupler ready to go.

The input shaft is the splined one in the picture (where the rear coupler assembly would mate to)? Should that shaft be able to turn freely by hand?

With the rear jacked up, yes, it should turn. Just want to verify it's not jammed before you spend funds on parts.

edit--
Hydro shaft should turn whether the tires are on the ground or up in the air.

A gear drive should only turn with tire(s) in the air.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
