Pulled the two axle housings. Interesting home made fix on the non-brake side. I ordered new bushings and seals. Thinking of trying to use JB weld packed in there once the new busing is in. I thought I read somewhere on here that was done with some success. This is not going to be a working tractor, just show or let the grand kids drive it around.
Thoughts? I am sure I could have it machined and get a bigger bushing also. |

JB
If you super clean that area and then pack it with JB weld, it should work fine. The load is all compression and JB should work fine for that.

I did. Built it up with JB weld and also used oil impregnated bushings that I drilled a hole into for the grease zerk. I hand filed the JB after it set up with a rat tail and then used some lighter Emory to get it as close/smooth as possible to hold the bushing in tight. It’s a stationary piece that doesn’t hold oil and has lasted 4 years now.

Cleaned up the housings and installed the new bushings and then packed the gaps with JB weld.

Should work. I think I packed in in with a toothpick.

I replaced both seals. Looks like one was original (pardon the pun). It was quite a bit more robust and I had to butcher it to get it out.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
