Retired Heavy Wrecker Towing/Recovery Operator. Master certified Auto Mechanic, and Master Certified Heavy Truck Mechanic. I also hold certifications in truck maintenance and modification.

Nowadays I just buy old farm tractors, repair and resell.....don't make much money at it, but keeps me out of trouble.

I dont have a real job, Im semi-retired, or semi Retarded maybe, I retired from metal fabrication and now I work part time doing equip maintenance for a small Landscape company... but most of my time is spent working on tractors for sale.

I posted early on in this thread, but thought I'd throw on a couple "action shots". Pulling a main link, (looks like a connecting rod) from a 1600 ton Danly press. And my pal, (retired now) prepping some replacement gears for a top drive Fagor 2500 ton press.

That's awesome. You ever work on a Schuler line up in Twinsburg? The company I work for bought the Tandem line 11 out of the Twinsburg plant. I believe it is a 2500 T lead hydraulic with 4 1500 T mechanicals. Anyway, good to see someone else on here that does some heavy stamping.

That is some neat manufacturing!! I've worked with 850 ton of various types, but nothing like those 1600 ton!

My grandfather had a beautiful 1957 Mack B-61 tandem axle with dual swing out booms. I think the winch was either a 40,000#, or an 80,000#. We were up to 3 large semi wreckers, a roll-back, and two Ford F350 wreckers, one being a 4x4. Owned and operated service station for 40+ years. Last of the mom and pop business, I started there at 14 and had to pump gas, wash windows, check oil and trans fluid on the full service island! Had been driving my IH Cub Cadet Original to the job during this point! I think gasoline was about .98 to 1.03 a gallon back then.

I sold a lot of Sunoco gas during my high school years, it varied anywhere from $.17 to $.22 a gal.
oil was .25 a qt for bulk in glass bottles, to $.55 in cans.
!0W 30 oil was just coming out.
My wage was $.95 an hour and Mc Donald's burgers were $.15
1961-1964 were the years, seems like yesterday

We sold Sohio gasoline. I started pumping fuel just as the all-steel 1-qt engine oil containers were going to the same size-cardboard containers. $10 would get you an honest 5 gallons of gas, a pack of smokes, and a 6-pack of light!

this was one of my daily drivers in the day..........

I worked at SOHIO also right when Cetron unleaded was coming out. Was all full service. Still remember the credit card machines at the island and the tire racks along the ceiling of the bays.
