Default Ve6cl

Hi folks,

Newbie here from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I wrote my basic license at a Hamfest in Montana in 1989 or 1990. Was a memorable experience.

Call sign is VE6CL. Haven't been on much, and only do 2m stuff, but that's only because I have too many hobbies (including Cub Cadets)

good on QRZ. just getting back on the air. picking up a Heathkit SB-220 and Palstar AT1500DT tuner next week to compliment my station.
pics on QRZ.
As long as I am good company here, I am looking for a little info on an old IH cub cadet 1000. model 444 rotary mower.

I am a newb and hate to make a new post asking ignorant questions. I have googled some stuff and can't find the answers I want.

I have paid for it but am not picking it up until Sunday. got this one for $150.00 and it actually fired up and the tires had air.

What engine does this have? it looks like it has a lift on the back and there were attachments in the garage sold separate.
I am hoping they are still there Sunday.

I did not see a PTO on the back but having a lift and seeing attachments in the garage I assume It would have one but again I do not know.

The deck was belt driven and it looked like it may have had some type of PTO on the front.

Paul

Great to see a couple more hams on here. Paul don't worry about starting a new thread with ignorant questions, that's what the forum is for and how you learn. The 1000 should have a Kohler K241 10 HP 1 cylinder engine. Start a thread in the IH section when you pick it up on Sunday and be sure to post pics!

The only Cub Cadets that had rear PTO driven attachments are the super garden tractors from the 80s and early 90s. The earlier geardrives did have the super rare rear pto, but it was reverse rotation from what big tractors are. So you also need a rare big $$ reverser for shaft drive equipment or right angle pulley for running belt drive equipment.

Curtis, I haven't even been on 2m much this summer. Just been too busy! 73 W8BT

Paul, I wish I would have got my ticket as early as you! I'm sure it was a lot more challenging then! I still can't do CW without the computer. Nice shack and melons!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
