We use a bunch of this insulation in HVAC. The brand most widely used is Armaflex in our trade but Armacell is probably just as well made. It will hold up well for many years. I replace all of mine when the hoses are removed also.

The biggest issue with these was that in it's original configuration, a great deal of current went through the contacts in the switch to power the glow plugs. With the modified system with a glow plug relay, that will reduce the load through the switch, so in theory, should last a very, very long time. That key switch is physically large and heavy! The few times I tried the starter after the install, it cranked every time, so it appears that it fixed that issue.

This is interesting. Mine make a ticking sound (I think it starts the fuel pump) but might take 2/3 tries to finally fire the solenoid to start cranking. Is that what you were addressing?

Sounds like you replaced the existing switch and added a relay to handle the current of the glow plug? Was this something Kuboda / IH did a long the way, or something you came up with?

Thanks
John

That’s the GP upgrade John. I think it’s listed in the tech section here.

Yes, I had to hit the key a few times before the starter would engage. After the new switch was installed, it worked the first time, every time.

Thank you gentlemen. That is excellent news and I'm off to search for the mod.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
