Default Cub Cadet 582 Clutch

Gentlemen new to working with Cubs, In need some advice on an IH built Cub Cadet 582 that I am working on. I purchased an aftermarket three puck clutch and driveshaft from Zack Kerber Machine. It came fully assembled with a release arm. My issue is that the original clutch release rod doesn't appear quite long enough. It is barely long enough to reach the release arm but I can not get the nut started. I can pry it back slightly and get the nut on, but of course when you do that there is no free play in the pedal and it releases the clutch as soon as you touch the pedal.

My question is where to go from here? If I extended the clutch release arm rod a couple inches by having someone weld a section in would that work or are there issues? Is there another model that may have a release rod that is a couple inches longer? I have attached a coupe of pictures for reference. Thanks for any thoughts you may have.

Are you building a puller or daily use tractor?

Hi Merk, I plan on just using it for mowing and general use. Just wanting it to be reliable when I get it back together.

Zack Kerber Machine builds good clutch assemblies. Unfortunately the clutch assembly you have is overkill.

Check this topic out to find-build a clutch that is reliable and easy on your leg.

I have an IH Cub Cadet puller with 20-25 horsepower using the above set up and not having problems.

You will need to modify- the clutch lever hanging assembly so it don't flex when the clutch is disengage and clutch lever to get any life out of your clutch assembly. Some pullers will change to a longer lever because the clutch is hard to disengage. longer clutch lever could cause a clearance issue when running a mower.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
