Working stiff did you ever get the starting issue fixed? If so great if not I have seen the same thing happen to a 1200 I had a while. If two of the wires get flipped around on the ignition switch it will do what you are saying. The power wire to the voltage regulator should go “dead” while cranking and the wire to the coil should stay hot during cranking and the run position. These could also be swapped at the firewall connector as well. I know this is a late post and hopefully you already have it repaired

Actually, its been a very very crazy time for me. My Dad took a tumble down a full flight of stairs and long story short. He's moved in with us and not driving anymore.
But,no I haven't fixed it as yet. But that sounds very plausible and very easy to try the next time I think about it when I'm out there. Thanks

cranking
One of my 149's did the same thing a year or so ago. Turns out it was the switch that had gone bad. Aftermarket replacement switch cured it. Sorry to hear about your Dad. Have a great day.
