Now, just so he is clear Dale, are you suggesting using the overdrive gear set, and switching if he wants the original ratio? Or using MWSC's "shift-able" gear?

the 2 speed kit is pretty expensive. the 13t pinion or overdrives would be the way to go

I would go with the 13 tooth pinion gear or overdrive .
My Son puller is set up with a 3 inch drive shaft coupler so he can change the pinion gear from a 12 tooth to a 13 tooth or vise-versa. It has 2 bolts-tabs you remove so he can pull the pinion gear.

when you have it apart I would recommend the front pinion bearing retainer. $40 to 50 and they are well worth it. if the snap ring pops off that bearing that's a ring and pinion failure and maybe a gearset.

The MWSC 2-speed is more than I need. After reading about it I don't think it would give me the gears I need. Seams I would lose my low gear when I need it. The pinion gear sounds like what I would do.

dvogtvpe, thanks for the heads up on the front pinion bearing retainer. I don't need down time during the season.

I have not posted for quite a while but we did get the tractor fixed. There was some extra broken parts once we opened it up. The carrier came out in several pieces and it also pushed out the bearing cups on both sides. Now its all back together with a MWSC spool and new axles. Weather permitting we will get our tech sticker this Saturday, last Saturday rained us out. J-Mech the club I am with is scheduled to pull in Oblong on August 8th maybe we'll see you there.

Tractor is pulling good so far this year. The new Firestone 26" tires are keeping us in low gear in the 1100# class right now. We should have put different gears in the trans while it was apart (13-16-26 and one over pinion right now). I feel a little fast in the 1050# and too slow in the 1100#. In the top 5 in the 1050# class every time so far and not so well in the 1100# so far. We'll figure it out though.

Our team (my father-in-law, my son, myself and now my wife) are having a real good first season in this sport. My son pulls a 1000 in the 850# 10hp stock kids class and is leading the points. I am pulling the 582 in the 12hp hot stock 1050# & 1100#. I am currently tied for first in the 1050# class and forth in the 1100# class. My father-in-law picked up narrow frame with a 18hp v-twin and pulls that in the 1050# & 1100# 25hp and under twin classes. He is in third in both classes. At the last two pulls we had my wife pull the 1000 in the 950# 10hp stock class to see how it does with another 100# of weight on it. She has won both times out. We may have to buy or build another tractor for next year. I would like to thank all who have helped and gave advice and information to us this year.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
