Default 149 hood catch help please

So I purchased a 149 that has a few issues and it looks like it has been semi restored at some point by a previous owner. The person I bought it from had little history about the tractor. Anyway I guess the hood hinge had busted at some point in its life and a repair was done with a strip of angle iron basically fixing the upper and lower grilles together. The hood was unbolted to the upper grille so you basically had to pull the hood off the front then slip it away from the cowl and it would lift off.
That was goofy, so I fabricated a hood hinge that replicated the original quite well and went about returning it to the original way. That went well after making the missing hood t-bolts and it functions well now.
On the cowl side, there are two springs that the hood cross bar rests on, but that is the extent of the latching mechanism, is there anything more to it? I mean the hood should rest in line with the cowl lip but the springs hold it up higher. I’m thinking the springs should maybe snap over the bar somehow? If anyone has a picture or something they could share I can see how it is supposed to look!

The hood does not rest on the springs, they fasten OVER the cross bar and hold it in the down position when you hook them over the bar, then lift up on the other end of the latch and lower it down into that catch on the sides of the dash tower.

The catches are behind and under the edge of the dash shell.
Feel up in there and you will find them, one on each side

Yeah I figured it was something like that. The other end of the spring is long so that would be the release leaver so to speak. There is a small tab on the inside that keeps tension on the cowl side while the cross bar keeps tension on the other?
My hood doesn’t seem to want to go past the spring so I must have to make some adjustments

Raise the hook end of the spring to clear the cross brace.
The handle end may be bound up and stuck in the way down position
There are kind of a PITA I will agree there..
But they are a secure latch when properly in place.

I put this stuff along the rear edge of the hold on my cubs with the fiberglass cowl. It tightens the hood against the cowl and stops rattling and wear.
Enough that you don't really need the springs unless you want them.

Exactly as finsruskw said. Mine were jammed up under the dash cowl pretty far from having the hood bouncing on top of the spring latches. A pair of needle nose pliers were needed to get them down. Look up under the cowl by your PTO lever. Same place on the other side.

Us old farts think alike, used the same stuff on my 1650 to quiet the rattle and stop the wearing of the fiberglass cowl.
