Default New to me 1712

So the newest cub in my collection until yesterday was a 1650 quiet line. I went to a consignment sale yesterday and saw a fairly nice 1712 with a nice 44c deck and cast iron ih wheel weights. I wasn't really interested in anything that new but I thought for $400 I'd take a chance. I really thought I would just strip the weights and resell it but it seems to run drive and mow nice. Did I do alright? Are these tractors any good?

The 1712 is a newer version of the 782. I "LOVE" my 782.

Yes nice tractor. It built one year, in 85 and has dual hydraulics. Nice option to run implements. I would buy!

You did well for $400, only came with a deck?

So, you really bought a $100 set of wheel weights and a $300 tractor.

I paid $425 for my first 782 with a Series II Kohler K17 still in it and a 44C deck, back in 2012. It's still pulling mowing duty.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
