Default My "new" 149

I recently bought my first 149. My first hydrostatic Cub, A 1973 model. It has been sitting for about 2 years, untouched. The previous owner said that it quit charging so he took the starter/generator to our local shop and had it checked and was told that it was good. He reinstalled it and didn't proceed any farther. I have not had time to work on it since I brought it home. I thought it had a bent spindle or some other problem with the left front wheel when I found it but after I loaded and hauled it home it now sits straight and level like the other front.
It will be restored.

Default 149 Restore

Been working on my 149 for over 4 years. Not doing a full restore, just making every thing look good and all mechanical things right. Hope you are faster than me and congrats on the 149. They are great tractors. Have a great day.

Bonus is that it has OEM lights. The headlight panel is worth $100-$200 and the tail lights are worth about the same. Nice find! Definitely worth restoring.

That looks like a nice one. Yes, rare to find the rear lights in tact for sure. That will clean up nicely

Yeah, I'm glad all the lights are intact but for some reason the headlights are held in with retainers made from an old license plate. Works, for now, but looks like crap when the hood is up. I will deal with that during the restoration. Everything else looks original except for the retainers.
I now see what the non-charging problem might be. The voltage regulator, being mounted so close to the battery, is very badly corroded. Might not be the problem, but I guess a good place to start, knowing the starter/generator is good. Wonder how interchangeable the regulator is with others?
I hope to get started checking this 149 out very soon. I'd like to hear it run for the first time.

That makes me feel better, I've had my 129 that long too, but only recently dug it out of the barn, brought it home to resuscitate it from the dead. Getting close, finally. Been nibbling on it for the better part of a month, if I had everything here it should have taken me no more than a weekend. But once I started really digging into it the more I found out that needed to be done. And bought.

Working on the 149 some today, it's obvious the PTO clutch has a problem. One of the set screws is rounded out so I will have to drill it out, I suppose. I talked to the seller today and he told me there was another clutch and some more spare parts that I failed to get when I bought the tractor so I will go get them tomorrow. The engine turns with the starter so I cleaned the points. Next, I will clean the carb and tank and see what happens.
