Fuel mixtures for older chainsaws
Hello all I got a question about how to mix 16:1 fuel mix for an older power Kraft (Montgomery Ward's) chainsaw.should I use a particular brand of 2 stroke engine oil and what is the amount of oil to use with 1 gallon of gas?

I may be crazy, but, I use Stihl Synthetic in any 2 stroke,
all at the same mix ratio,, one little Stihl pre-measured oil jug to one gallon. IMHO, those old 2 strokes demanded more oil,, because the oil was such low quality,, as oil improved, the ratio decreased,, |

Any of todays 2 smoke oils are superior to the 30W motor oil back in the day,.
16:1 would be 16 oz of gas to 1 oz of oil,-- do the math. a gal is 128 oz so you need 12.8 oz of oil-- not rocket science. we usually used a pint to the gallon or less back then 3/4 to 1 pint to a gallon is good. I would not go too lean on the oil as a lot of old 2 smoke engines didn't have needle bearings on the rod journals. If you run them lean on oil, you will put a rod through the side of the block. I'd rather fog 'skeeters than ruin a vintage engine. |

For a saw, if i don't have any 40:1 boat gas mixed up i use 32:1. I've got a shot glass and a mason jar. Mike

I buy a product called Opti 2. It's a synthetic lubricant that replaced the oil and runs great in everything without smoking or fouling plugs.
Unless I'm not going to use that piece of equipment for a while, then I use the BG/TruFuel/whatever brand pre mix in a can that's ethanol free and won't gum up the carb.

As far as a rocket scientist, Nasa missed Mars the first time so I don't feel bad. Thats what I get for letting my typing finger get ahead of my finger counting. now where did I leave my glasses? oh never mind, I'll just follow the smoke to the moon and turn left. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
