Now you got me thinking, and that might be the easiest route. Has anyone used or heard of kustomlawnandgarden.com? Looks like the sell reman onans. Same price point as the repower but would be original.

If your engine runs fine I wouldn't replace it. Have you done a compression check? Where is it leaking oil at? Can you post any pics of it?

Good source for Onan parts:

Boomer (The used Onan parts Guy)
He is on MTF & WFM. Do a search on his name and send him a PM about your issue. This guys knows a ton of stuff on Onan engines and is very nice to talk to + he has a ton of reasonably priced parts.

I did a complete rebuild on a P220 for one of my 982's here. These are a little different than a B48G but pretty close. Most of the parts were purchased at Gary's Place.

I've used Kustom L&G for rebuild kits for singles. And talked to him about his carbs. He's a very good guy to talk with. Mike

Well I havent made any decisions on the 2072 yet but its looking like now I will be able to pull the motor again and do a complete tear down and reaseal on the onan.
Picked up this 882 today for what I think is a great deal in the diesel world, $1000. Has front hydraulic hook up and block heater, 50" deck and a brand new starter. The guy said he put about $2000 into it a few years ago, its been sitting in a barn for 2 years. By no means is it perfect and the seat drives me crazy but it will clean up well.
Mowed for about 4 hours with it today and it did great. While I was mowing i thought to myself... maybe I should put the kubota in the 2072, but I dont think i can bring myself to tear apart two fairly rare cubs.
The only thing i would really like to have on the 882 is power steering to make it perfect. Maybe ill try some tri rib tires up front and see how that goes.

You did very well on the purchase of the 882. Looks like it's time to pull the Onan and see what's leaking. You do know that you will need to post lots of pics on the Onan rebuild/re-gasket.

Went out and got a new seat and the correct size deck wheels for the 882 from tsc today. Looking better already!
Pulled off the drive shaft cover while I was out in the garage and its probably a good thing I did. The rag joints look to be ok but the trans cooling fan is missing all of its fins except one, I cant help but feel like that could be potential for disaster.
Now im on the hunt for some replacement parts.

Check the driveline good like Mick said. It looks like it already exploded at least once with the replacement hoses instead of the steel lines. Jeff can hook you up with all the right parts if needed. Lets see the new seat.

Really late to the party and it's probably a moot point by now, But I have a 1912 that had an Onan and I bolted in an M18, and I love it. It's an easy swap, except the wiring changes going from points to mag ignition.

The M18 is a good engine but I'm thinking that the B48G parts are as cheap if not cheaper than the mag parts now. Gotta love them fuel suckin opposed Onan/Magnum engines!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
