Default Relief Valves Weeping Squirting

I recently purchased a Cub Cadet 1986 1210. After the engine has been running a few minutes and things are warmed up hydro fluid will sometimes squirt or weep from the right side relief valve. I cleaned the entire hydro unit. I have changed the filter and hy tran oil in the hydro transmission. The pump was covered with oil and dirt so I know this leaking has been going on for some time. The relief valves are shaped differently than the ones on my Cub Cadet 127, they are flat on top, no buttons, with a weep hole in the center. Can I disassemble and clean these valves myself or does one need special equipment?

The Relief Valve needs replacing. You have two options. (A) Buy new one(s), or (B) Send them to be rebuilt.

I was able to get the relief valve to reset by blowing it out with compressed air and reinstalling it. Probably only a temporary fix. We will see. I did find the where trash was entering the hydraulic system, the battery rubbed a hole in the transaxle fill tube. I found that problem when I changed the fluid and filter. The working hour meter has 2100 hours on it. The engine knocks and smokes pretty bad and is in need of a thorough overhaul. I'm currently shopping for a good rebuild kit with new piston, rod, rings, gaskets, shims, valves and so forth.

You will need to find a machine shop to turn the crank and fit the oversize piston.
Contact machine shop first so they can measure how much to bore and turn the
crank as you need to know this first so you can purchase the appropriate size rod & piston/rings in the kit.
Then take it to them to fit everything.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
