Very inventive method of shake rattle and roll with screener. Maybe a few more times with it? Where did you source the other tank? Aftermarket?
I haven’t tried that red kote stuff but have heard decent reviews. Probably based on the interior of the tank being rust free though?

I do not see any rocks, is the new tank a direct replacement or do you have to make it fit?

I finally scraped away enough crud and paint to find the serial number;

Time for a quick update.
After not being able to get a confirmation from Ford/New Holland as to the proper tank for this Ford 4000 SU I decided to take a chance and order the tank listed for a Model 3000, and guess what? Yup, it fits! So, along with the new tank I installed a new fuel level sending unit, lock ring and sealing gasket. Also new fuel tap/shutoff,..and yes, there is a difference between the WIX filter that claims to be suitable for a CAV fuel system and the OEM filter. |

The only difference between my new pump and the old one is the side cover plate. The original just had a blank plate but the new one has the provision for a return to filter line. Both it and the filter housing threads were 1/2 - 20, so I ordered a couple of SAE 5M x 1/4" NPTF adaptors ( I actually removed the o rings that came with the adaptors and replaced them with some copper washers that I had. ), a couple of 1/4" NPTM to compression fittings and some 1/4" steel line and plumbed the return line back to the filter housing.
That's it. New fuel system complete. |
