Good idea. I've never been the kind to haggle over price, but probably worth it. The guy did say that he really wants to sell it and so the price is negotiable.

It is possible it has an electric lift setup.

Have you had any experience with these old tractors?

Yes, I believe it is possible, but if it does, it is hidden behind the filler panel.
Can't tell from the pictures.
Pop the hood and you should be able to tell.
I'm pretty sure it will actuate the rock shaft in the same place as the std. hydro lift like the quiet lines would if it had one.

Just noticed that the ad for the $1100 tractor says it comes with a 48" deck. Would that be right? I've been reading that there are several size decks that work with this tractor.

I think they came with 38,44 or 50. That's not to say someone didn't put a 48 on it tho. And really not a problem if they did. You really like that one huh?

Well, I guess it's like friends of mine who are eBay sellers often say...appearance means alot when you're trying to sell something. So I guess, yeah, I'm sort of drawn to it, but need to keep in mind that the new paint and decals means nothing in terms of what's going on under the hood. I'm a bit concerned that the owner seems to really have little clue what his Dad did to it. Doesn't even seem to know what all these "new parts" are that were put on. And, as has been said here, the price is rather high. I do like that he will deliver since I have no means to transport it. Still waiting to hear back from the guy in Denver who is listing his for $475. I get the feeling he'd sell it for less. But, again, he seems to know very little about it..hasn't had it long. If his is local pick-up only, then I'll probably rule it out.

Well. I can tell you this. Unless he comes down to planet earth and asks a lot less he will sit on it for a long time. How handy are you? Refurb one yourself possible? Someone here should have warned you by now.. No matter what cub you buy, soon you will want another. They are kinda like potato chips. Can't just have one. So when you buy your second one, the first one can get laid up for refurb! See.. Problem solved LOL

Maybe the owner feels that with the way the exterior looks, that it justifies the asking price. Doubtful that he has any prior experience selling one of these. And, from looking around Craigslist, the prices are all over the place, so if I were in his position I'm not sure how I'd arrive at a fair price. Gotta figure in the amount of time required to get it to look like that plus whatever else he did to it....the guys here on the forum would know alot more about that sort of thing than I do. I'm pretty handy mechanically, but have never refurbed a tractor. If I buy one of these, just what am I getting into? My hopes would be that it would run for at least several years without requiring too much work (?)

...unless when I see it I decide I want it....would probably make him a lower offer on it though based on the advice given here. Heck, it's only money..."can't take it with ya" as the saying goes.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
